Protocol development, NHS set-up, evaluation & follow-up
For the LOCATE study, I developed and executed two distinct protocols: a qualitative process evaluation and a 54-month follow-up study. I managed the entire research lifecycle—leading all data collection and analysis—and published two papers as lead author. This work delivered tangible real-world impact, directly resulting in the local ICB commissioning a community-based liver service for GPs to refer at-risk patients.
NHS set-up & service evaluation
I established and led the NHS-commissioned Southampton Community Liver Service, delivering liver assessments via a dedicated GP pathway. I evaluated routine clinical data and led a published service evaluation. My evaluation delivered immediate real-world impact by providing the evidence to refine local referral criteria.
Feasibility assessment, protocol development & NHS set-up
For the REFLEX study I managed the entire project lifecycle from feasibility and evidence gap analysis to final publication, driving deliverables including protocol design, funding acquisition, PPIE, ethics approvals, database design, data collection and analysis. The manuscript has been submitted for publication and is currently under peer review. Additionally, this work is scheduled for evaluation by NICE to form part of the evidence base for the upcoming 2027 MASLD guidelines.

For the ESCALATE study, I will be leading an evaluation of a new NHS service delivering Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) for patients with compensated advanced chronic liver disease. This will be a mixed-methods feasibility study to establish routine clinical acceptability and generate the foundational data needed for a future multi-centre randomised controlled trial (RCT).
